Vacation Rental SEO Checklist: Help Search Engine Ranking

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is complex and ever-changing, with no set formula to guarantee success.

However, search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing etc., do provide web developers with "best practice rules" that will help your website reaching its full SEO potential.

SEO Checklist

In order to increase traffic to your vacation rental website and in turn increase your bookings, you will need to make sure you are implementing the essentials of SEO. To help you on your quest to SEO success we have outlined an ultimate checklist that will help you  improve your ranking:

Website Checker:

There are great free tools online that will automatically check your website for broken links, tag information etc.

Broken Link Checker: Tools such as Broken Link Checker, allow you to see if you have broken links on your website. Broken links, a link that points to a URL that does not exist, are a big SEO no-no so you need to fix any broken links you may have.

Content Marketing Checker: HubSpot’s Marketing Grader is a great tool, that offers suggestions to increase your content and social media marketing. Best of all, they offer solutions to your problems that you can easily implement.

Alt Tags:

Alt tags are used to tell search engines what your links and images are about. Make sure all your images and links have relevant alt-tags. If you have an image of your property on your website it’s alt tag should be along the lines “Vacation Rental Loft in Berlin”. This is a great place to insert your keywords.

Meta Description:

Meta-descriptions tells search engines what your website is about, and in turn the search engines display your meta-descriptions when your website shows up in a search query. Make sure you have a meta-descripton for your each of your webpages. Your meta-description shouls be limited to 150-160 characters and have correct spelling.

Site Speed:

The speed your webpage loads plays an important role in SEO. Make sure you are using a website company, such as Kigo website and hosting,  that will allow your website to load quickly. Free tools such as Pingdom offer tools to conduct speed test for websites.

Site-Map Submission:

In order to let search engines like Google know that you have created a new webpage, you will need to submit a .XML sitemap. You can submit sitemaps to Google through Google Webmaster tools. Make sure you submit a sitemap everytime you create a new webpage.

Avoid Using Flash:

As great as Flash can be from a design perspective, from an SEO stand-point it is not indexable by search engines, thus keywords you place in your flash component or website, will be ineffective.

Remove Duplicate Content:

Another big SEO no-no is duplicate content. Search engines favor websites that have a lot of individual web pages, however these pages need to be unique in terms of content and keywords. Review your website to ensure you do not have duplicate content pages. Writing blog posts is a great way of increasing your website’s page count, all the while creating original content.
