Vacation Rental Marketing: How to Use Pinterest Effectively

A while back, Kigo encouraged vacation rental managers to join the fast growing social media platform Pinterest. Since our article on Pinterest Board Ideas for Vacation Rentals, the virtual pin-board social network has grown to over 70 million global followers. So, if you are not already pinning your vacation rentals, now is a good time as any!

Vacation Rental Marketing Pinterest

Pinterest is predominantly powered by images and videos, which means it is not a social network that is effective for all businesses. However for vacation rental managers, it is an excellent place for sharing beautiful images of your property, its surrounding area and encouraging visual engagement with potential guests.

To help vacation rental managers take their social media marketing with Pinterest one step further, we have put together some ways to get the most out of 'pinning' for your business:

Use Specific Keywords

Using specific keywords on your Pinterest account will increase chances of your beautiful pins being found and in turn, exposure of your properties. Firstly, it is important that your business name on Pinterest includes a popular keyword in it. Say for instance your vacation rental business is called 'London Stays', this doesn't make it easy for people to stumble across your pins unless they have searched word by word your business name. Edit your profile name under settings and choose something search friendly e.g. 'London Stays - Holiday Apartments'.

The same goes for the names of your boards and pin descriptions; optimizing them with keywords will increase chances of showing up in pins search results and traffic to your vacation rental website.

Pin Blog Content

If you are creating regular blog content, increase chances of it being read by creating a board devoted to it. When adding a new pin to a board, simply enter the URL of your latest blog post, select the image to pin and write a short keyword specific description. That way, when pinners click on your blog post pin, they will be directed to the original content on your website. This is a great way of building links and directing traffic to your vacation rental website with very little effort.

Keep Pinning

With all social media marketing, it is so important to keep your content fresh and up to date. By doing so, it will improve credibility and increase chances of your vacation rental business being found. With Pinterest, pin consistently to make your new content discoverable and repin old content for those they may have missed it the first time around. However, remember not to overload your followers with pins as it may result in a decrease in your audience; pinning on a regular basis will increase followers.

Join in on Group Boards

Once you have established followers and a following, participate in or create your own Pinterest group board. Group boards allow multiple contributors and can attract thousands of followers. Some group boards will display contact information on how to become a contributor and others you will need to be invited by an existing contributor. Gaining access will enable your uploaded pin to be discovered and repinned a lot quicker. There are all kinds of group boards out there that for sharing your vacation rental or property area with, My Dream Vacation Spot is an excellent example.
